The Falcons have the best defense in the Mountain West Conference. They allow 281.3 yards per game with a conference-low of 16.8 points per game. Teams have struggled to run the ball against this stout defense. Air Force only allows 99.5 rushing yards per game. Senior linebacker Vince Sanford leads the squad in total tackles with 36, including 28 solo.

Sanford also leads this defensive unit with eight tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. The Ohio native is tied for third in the nation with three forced fumbles. Senior defensive tackle Jordan Jackson is second on the team with five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He has registered 25 total tackles as well. This defense will need to continue its dominance to slow down Army's run-heavy offense.

Why Army can cover

Opponents have had difficulties establishing a ground game against Army. The Black Knights only allow 92.6 rushing yards per game. Junior outside linebacker Andre Carter II has logged a team-high nine tackles for loss with 8.5 sacks. Carter II has secured both a tackle for loss and a sack in five of the seven games played.

Senior linebacker Arik Smith is tied for the team lead in total tackles. Smith has registered 39 stops with 17 being solo. The Maryland native is second on the team with 3.5 tackles for loss while generating pressure on the quarterback. He has a team-high seven quarterback hurries. The Black Knights will have their hands full against the Falcons' rush attack but have shown their ability to slow down the run.
