College football scores, rankings, highlights in Week 7: Georgia survives scare, USC picks up signature win

Elsewhere, No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 11 LSU secured key SEC victories

Week 7 of the 2025 college football season certainly didn't lack in fireworks. The late window was particularly eventful as a few top-25 teams narrowly avoided upsets against unranked foes. 

All but No. 15 Michigan, at least. The Wolverines dropped to 4-2 on the year in a 31-13 loss to USC. The Trojans, who lost each of their top two running backs fairly early into the evening's proceedings, still rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns against Michigan's defensive front. Walk-on running back King Miller led the way with 158 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. 

At around the same time, No. 10 Georgia and No. 11 LSU were pushed to the limit by SEC foes. The Bulldogs scored a late touchdown to eek out a 20-10 win against rival Auburn while LSU kicked a short field goal to collect its own 20-10 victory over an upset-minded South Carolina squad. 

Michigan wasn't the only ranked team to fall to an opponent outside of the top 25. No. 6 Oklahoma's season hit its first major road bump as the Sooners lost 23-6 to Texas in a Red River rout. 

Taking other ranked wins like No. 1 Ohio State's triumph over No. 17 Illinois and No. 7 Indiana's statement-making victory against No. 3 Oregon into account, there's sure to be major shifts in both top 25 polls Sunday.

Final: No. 10 Georgia 20, Auburn 10 

Everything was going right for Auburn in its upset bid against rival Georgia. Until it wasn't. Late in the second quarter, Auburn had a chance to go up three possessions with a 10-0 lead and the ball on Georgia's 1-yard line. Then quarterback Jackson Arnold fumbled on what should have been a routine sneak play for a touchdown. 

Georgia recovered that fumble and turned it into its first three points of the game. The Bulldogs rode that momentum to a 17-0 scoring advantage in the second half and 20 unanswered points to escape the upset. The Bulldogs officially slammed the door near the start of the fourth quarter when they embarked on a 16-play, 78-yard drive that took 8:45 off the clock and ended with a 10-yard touchdown from quarterback Gunner Stockton. 

Stockton's score gave Georgia a two-possession lead and officially put the game out of reach.

FINAL: LSU 20, South Carolina 10

Despite a couple red zone turnovers from Garrett Nussmeier, the 11th-ranked Tigers avoided the home upset with an impressive performance defensively against a team that's sputtering this season under Shane Beamer. Nussmeier's go-ahead touchdown pass to a streaking Kyle Parker over the middle in the third quarter was the decisive blow for the Tigers, who improved to 19-2-1 all-time against the Gamecocks.

LSU managed a season-high five sacks and six tackles for loss, harassing a South Carolina offensive line that struggled throughout. The Gamecocks were penalized 13 times and lost for the third time in four contests this fall against SEC competition.

FINAL: No. 9 Texas Tech 42, Kansas 17

For most of the top teams in college football, nothing came easy this weekend. Then there's Texas Tech, which continues to handle its business without breaking too much of a sweat.

The Red Raiders only needed 133 passing yards because they got whatever they wanted on the ground. Texas Tech shredded the Kansas defense for 372 rush yards, and running back Cameron Dickey led the way with 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

As good as Texas Tech's run game was, the defense was equally impressive. That unit notched eight sacks while forcing a fumble and holding the Jayhawks to 1.9 yards per attempt on the ground. It was a dominant effort by the Red Raiders from top to bottom.

If there is any concern for Texas Tech, it's that quarterback Behren Morton left the game with an injury in the first half and did not return. Will Hammond was more than serviceable in relief as he totaled 103 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Halftime: Arizona 17, No. 18 BYU 14

It wasn't long ago that it looked like the Cougars would run away with this one. After punting on its opening drive, BYU scored on each of its next two possessions to take a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Apparently, that's exactly what the Wildcats needed to wake up because they have stormed back for a halftime lead.

Arizona Noah Fifita has made some key plays to get his team back in this game, but the best one came in the final minute of the half. He dropped a 35-yard dime to Chris Hunter for the touchdown that put the Wildcats up going into the locker room.

Outside of their first drive, the Cougars have yet to punt. They've just struggled to finish drives with a turnover on downs, a missed field goal and an interception.

FINAL: USC 31, No. 15 Michigan 13

USC made a statement on Saturday inside Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with a 31-13 win over No. 15 Michigan. USC coach Lincoln Riley entered the night 4-11 against ranked opponents and walked away with arguably his most impressive win with the program since arriving to Southern California from Oklahoma in the fall of 2021.

But it didn't come without drama. Michigan scored a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter after a missed tackle resulted in a 69-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Underwood to Andrew Marsh. However, USC put the game away for good with a nine-play, 75-yard drive to extend the lead to 18 points.

Michigan star running back Justice Haynes exited the game in the second quarter and did not return. He finished with 51 rushing yards after going for over 100 during his first four games at his new school.

USC was also without its top two running backs (Waymond Jordan and Eli Sanders) because of injury. Because of that, the star of the night ended up being walk-on running back King Miller, who ran for 156 yards and a touchdown. 

The Trojans have a date with Notre Dame next weekend on the road, while Michigan will play Washington.

Texas A&M remains undefeated on the 2025 season after taking care of business at home against Florida on Saturday night in a 34-17 victory in College Station. 

The two teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter, but after a 14-14 start, the Aggies' defense settled in and put the clamps on DJ Lagway and the Gators' offense the rest of the way. Florida finished with just 287 yards of offense, with more than half of that coming in the first quarter, as the Texas A&M offense was able to ramp up the pressure on Lagway and stymie the Florida rushing attack, holding them to 74 yards on the ground. 

On offense, Texas A&M got a solid night from Marcel Reed, who finished with 234 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception, along with 37 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Le'Veon Moss and Rueben Owens II both added rushing touchdowns, as Texas A&M got the job done on Saturday night with a balanced attack that wore down the Florida defense. 

With the win, Texas A&M improves to 6-0 and holds firm as one of a dwindling few unbeatens in power conference football. Florida, meanwhile, falls to 2-4 and Billy Napier once again finds himself under significant pressure to get some big wins against a difficult schedule to save his job in Gainesville.

3Q: LSU 17, South Carolina 10

Garrett Nussmeier's 43-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Parker midway through the third quarter has pushed 11th-ranked LSU to a one-score lead. On the Gamecocks' ensuring possession, South Carolina was called for an illegal procedure on a successful fake punt near midfield, causing Shane Beamer to lose his mind on the sideline with the officiating crew.

Mid 3Q: No. 10 Georgia 10, Auburn 10 

Momentum has been swinging Georgia's way for a while in its Saturday game against Auburn, even if the score didn't always reflect it. Now it does. The Bulldogs finally tied things up with a two-yard rushing touchdown from running back Chauncey Bowens. Bowens' rush capped a five-play, 63-yard drive for the Bulldogs that was aided by a defensive holding penalty on Auburn. The Tigers have been very sloppy thus far. They're already up to 11 penalties for a total of 90 yards.

EARLY 4Q: USC 24, No. 15 Michigan 7

USC just extended its lead to 17 with 10:01 remaining after Ryon Sayeri drilled a 54-yard field goal. The Trojans are in control and are on their way toward securing a statement win. USC coach Lincoln Riley entered the night 4-11 against ranked opponents. This would arguably be the biggest win over his tenure at the school.

FINAL: Iowa 37, Wisconsin 0

The Luke Fickell era at Wisconsin hit a new low on Saturday after his team suffered a 37-0 loss to Iowa -- a team known for not putting up points. The Hawkeyes racked up over 200 yards of total offense on the ground in the blowout victory. With the loss, the Badgers dropped to 2-4 and 0-3 in Big Ten play.

The Badgers started the 2025 campaign 2-0 but have since dropped its last four games. The hot seat might be warming up for Fickell after going 5-7 last season and heading toward not being bowl eligible, again.

It looked like Texas A&M was getting ready to put this game to bed in the early fourth quarter as they moved inside the red zone while holding a 24-17 lead over Florida. That was until Marcel Reed threw one up into double coverage in the end zone and got picked off by Jordan Castell to keep the Gators' hopes alive of their second straight upset victory over a top 10 team from Texas. 

Florida drove the ball to midfield on their ensuing possession, but stalled out and turned it over on downs to put the pressure back on their defense to make another play.

HALF: LSU 10, South Carolina 7

Brian Kelly and 11th-ranked LSU are trying to beat South Carolina for the sixth straight time in Baton Rouge and have a narrow lead at intermission in an SEC slugfest featuring two underperforming offenses. The Tigers and Gamecocks combined for four turnovers in the first half, including LSU's lost fumble near the goal line and two giveaways from Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers. LSU is trying to rebound from its first loss of the season, a 24-19 setback at Ole Miss two weeks ago.

HALF: Texas Tech 21, Kansas 17

Ninth-ranked Texas Tech jumped out to an 21-0 lead early in the second quarter on a number of explosive plays before the Jayhawks answered with 17 points of their own behind a couple touchdown passes from Jalon Daniels to pull within four at intermission. The Big 12 favorite entering Week 7, Texas Tech is one of the national leaders in total offense and total defense, but is being tested by a feisty Kansas team.

Texas A&M now leads 24-14 thanks to the first big turnover of the game. After forcing a quick 3-and-out from the Aggies, Florida promptly gave the ball back when they fumbled inside their own 30 on a 3rd and 16 screen play on the sidelines. 

Texas A&M moved it inside the 10 on their ensuing possession, but the Gators defense was able to keep them out of the end zone, holding the Aggies to a short field goal to extend their lead to double digits for the first time.

Late 2Q: Auburn 10, No. 10 Georgia 0 

Auburn had a prime opportunity to enter halftime with a potentially three-score lead. The Tigers faced third-and-goal from Georgia's one-yard line with less than two minutes to play. They elected to run a sneak play with quarterback Jackson Arnold. At some point during the play, Arnold lost control of the ball. Officials initially whistled the play dead but ruled that Arnold fumbled the ball and Georgia recovered. After a review, the call on the field was upheld, giving Georgia possession with its back to its own goal line. 

It was a bang-bang play, though the video review showed Arnold potentially crossing the goal line with possession. Auburn coach Hugh Freeze was incensed with the call. Regardless of what happens, the Tigers will still have a lead once halftime rolls around, though Georgia is driving.

HALF: USC 14, No. 15 Michigan 7

We have reached halftime from Southern California. USC leads No. 15 Michigan 14-7 after receiver Makai Lemon hauled in an incredible touchdown pass from quarterback Jayden Maiava with 14 seconds remaining to put his team back in front. This is shaping up to be an exciting finish with huge College Football Playoff implications. On top of that, USC coach Lincoln Riley is looking for a signature win after starting 4-11 against AP-ranked opponents during his tenure with the program.

USC had a chance to make this a two-score game early, but Michigan's defense made a massive play. After USC tight end Lake McRee caught a pass over the middle for a 21-yard gain, Michigan forced a fumble off a big hit and recovered deep in its own territory. At that point, Michigan had just two yards of total offense.

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood tossed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Donaven McCulley late in the second quarter to tie the game at 7. The Wolverines racked up 151 yards of total offense in the first half, while USC recorded 242.

After a wild first quarter, the two defenses settled in for the second quarter, where the Aggies took a 21-14 lead that they maintained all the way to the locker room. 

Both quarterbacks got off to a hot start, as Florida's DJ Lagway and A&M's Marcel Reed both accounted for a pair of first quarter touchdowns. However, Florida's offense stalled in the second quarter, as they managed just 34 yards of offense with the Aggies finally creating some pressure on Lagway to disrupt him in the pocket and force some errant throws.

Texas A&M also found it more difficult moving the ball in the second quarter but was able to pop a 22-yard touchdown courtesy of Le'Veon Moss early in the quarter to go up a touchdown.

Moss would unfortunately later leave the game with an injury after getting twisted up on a tackle and did not return before halftime arrived, which put a damper on Texas A&M's rushing attack. 

We'll see what adjustments both teams make in the second half after each defense seemed to figure things out after the hot offensive start. Florida in particular will need to find a way to move the ball more consistently, as they've yet to convert a third down in the game and will have to sustain some drives to keep their defense from getting worn out.

Late 2Q: No. 9 Texas Tech 21, Kansas 7 

The good news for Texas Tech is that its rolling against Kansas. The bad news for Texas Tech is that it may have to manage the rest of the game without starting quarterback Behren Morton, who went to the locker room with an apparent injury after taking a sack late into the second quarter. Morton was able to walk under his won power, but he did not come back onto the field for Texas Tech's latest offensive drive. The Red Raiders will turn to backup Will Hammond for the time being. Hammond played well in relief of an injured Morton in Texas Tech's win against Utah earlier in the season. He also adds a running threat to Tech's offense, so it seems the Raiders are in good hands.

Halftime: Iowa 23, Wisconsin 0

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse for the Badgers, they turn in that half of football at home. The Badgers totaled 117 yards of offense while allowing 113 rushing yards to Iowa. To make matters worse, Wisconsin is already up to three turnovers on the night.

Quarterback Hunter Simmons is having a dreadful time against the Iowa defense, completing four of his 13 passing attempts for 60 yards, a pair of interceptions and a lost fumble. In fairness to Simmons, he hasn't gotten much help from anyone else around him.

Barring a miraculous turnaround in the second half, Wisconsin will be 2-4 at the midway point of the season. The questions around coach Luke Fickell, who was 15-16 with the Badgers coming into Saturday, will only get louder. Each of Wisconsin's losses have come by at least 14 points, and this one doesn't look like it will be any different.

2Q: No. 9 Texas Tech 21, Kansas 7

The Red Raiders have asserted themselves as one of the very best teams in the country, and that doesn't seem likely to change tonight. Texas Tech has jumped all over Kansas in the early going, and its rushing attack is slicing the Jayhawks' defense.

The game's first touchdown came when Texas Tech running back Cameron Dickey took a handoff and sprinted away from the pack for a 71-yard score. He's already up to 110 yards just halfway through the second quarter.

Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton is off to an efficient start as well -- though not quite as efficient as 12.2 yards per carry. He's up to 91 yards and a touchdown on 12 passing attempts. There's still a lot of time left in this game, but Texas Tech is making a good case that it should be even higher in the rankings tomorrow.

2Q: South Carolina 7, LSU 3

Despite fumbling on their first snap of the game leading to a field goal, the Gamecocks lead the Tigers at the start of the second quarter following Matthew Fuller's 72-yard touchdown run. That's the longest play of the season for the South Carolina offense. Fuller's burst came after the Gamecocks forced a fumble at their own 2-yard line with LSU failing to convert a red zone opportunity into a touchdown for the second time.

Early 2Q: Auburn 10, No. 10 Georgia 0 

Auburn's offense is firing on all cylinders early against top rival Georgia. Up until its latest drive stalled in the red zone, the Tigers were 5-for-5 on third downs. They did get stopped on third-and-6 at Georgia's 7-yard line, but kicker Alex McPherson's 25-yard field goal still gave Auburn a two-possession lead. The Tigers have 140 total yards of offense. Georgia has 14, including -3 yards rushing.

LATE 1Q: USC 7, No. 15 Michigan 0

Michigan's defense just made a huge play when it looked like USC was close to extending its lead to double-digits late in the first quarter. After USC tight end Lake McRee caught a pass over the middle for a 21-yard gain, Michigan forced a fumble off a big hit and recovered deep in its own territory. Michigan's first drive went for just 2 yards, while USC has racked up 138 yards of total offense so far.

FINAL: No. 12 Tennessee 34, Arkansas 31 

Tennessee kept rolling in SEC play Saturday with a narrow win against an upset-minded Arkansas squad led by interim coach Bobby Petrino. The Vols had a 17-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but conservative offensive play-calling and a defense that took a late step back allowed Arkansas to battle back into the game. 

Still, Tennessee was able to work the clock late -- and survived an injury scare from quarterback Joey Aguilar, who briefly exited the game after landing awkwardly during a scramble -- to sit on its win. Aguilar was, once again, solid for the Vols. 

He completed 16 of his 25 pass attempts for 221 yards and one touchdown and also rushed for 59 yards on five carries. 

Tennessee didn't escape completely unscathed. Top rusher DeSean Bishop suffered an apparent leg injury and wide receiver Braylon Staley, who broke 100 yards against Arkansas, exited the game with what looked like a shoulder injury. The Vols are going to be banged up entering a critical game at No. 8 Alabama next week.

In what some figured would be a defensive slugfest in College Station, a track meet has broken out between the Gators and Aggies. Florida and No. 5 Texas A&M are tied 14-14 after one quarter -- with the Aggies across midfield again when the second quarter begins -- as defense has been optional for the first 15 minutes in the primetime SEC battle. 

The two quarterbacks are dealing early, as Marcel Reed has completed 8-of-9 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown through the air, with an 8-yard rushing touchdown as well. 

On the other side, DJ Lagway is having his best start to a game this season, as the Gators QB is 10-of-12 for 128 yards and two touchdowns. He's once again found a strong connection with Dallas Wilson after the two had a big game last week in Florida's win over Texas. 

This game might be determined by which defense can settle in and get a few stops, as right now neither side has produced much of a resistance in an exciting first quarter.

FINAL: Texas 23, No. 6 Oklahoma 6

After Oklahoma jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half, Texas took over and scored the final 23 points for a victory in the Red River Rivalry. In the second half, the Longhorns leaned on defense and special teams to hand the Sooners their first loss of the season.

After being listed as questionable for much of the week, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer returned to the lineup just over two weeks after undergoing surgery on his throwing hand. Going up against a stout Texas defense, Mateer struggled mightily, throwing for just 202 yards and a career high three interceptions. Even Mateer's rushing ability, which had been a major weapon for the Sooners earlier in the season, was a non-factor.

Perhaps the biggest play of the game came after the Longhorns defense got a stop in the fourth quarter. What was a one-score game at 13-6 quickly became a two-score game when Ryan Niblett housed a 75-yard punt return.

Over the last 30 years, Oklahoma has now been held without a touchdown just three times. All three of those games were against Texas. In his four games against the Longhorns as a head coach, Brent Venables is now 1-3, and he's been outscored by an average of 23.6 points.

FINAL: Colorado 24, No. 22 Iowa State 17

Colorado and coach Deion Sanders secured their biggest win of the 2025 season with a 24-17 victory over No. 22 Iowa State. Colorado quarterback Kaidon Salter tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Williams to take the lead back for good late in the third quarter and Alejandro Mata drilled a short field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to a touchdown.

But the biggest play came on defense. Iowa State, trailing 21-17, was driving early in the fourth quarter and faced a third-and-goal. That's when Tawfiq Byard, wearing a massive cast on his hand, intercepted a Rocco Becht pass to keep the Cyclones out of the end zone.

Colorado is now 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play. Iowa State, meanwhile, is 5-2 (2-2 Big 12) after opening its season with five consecutive victories.

FINAL: No. 16 Notre Dame 36, NC State 7

No. 16 Notre Dame cruised to a 36-7 win over NC State on Saturday after starting slow in the first half. The Fighting Irish kicked a late field goal to take a 10-7 lead into the locker room. Notre Dame held NC State scoreless in the second half and scored 29 unanswered points to move to 4-2.

After starting the year 0-2 with losses to Miami and Texas A&M, Notre Dame has now won four consecutive games. Star running back Jeremiyah Love finished with 86 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the blowout win. Notre Dame has a big matchup against USC next weekend.

Penn State was on the wrong side of one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 college football season a week ago when UCLA shocked the Nittany Lions as a 24.5-point underdog. It happened again on Saturday as Penn State fell to Northwestern on Saturday as a 20.5-point favorite at home. It marked the first time an FBS team lost consecutive games as an outright favorite of at least 20 points in the last 30 years.

The Wildcats secured their biggest upset win since defeating Notre Dame 17-15 in 1995 after closing as a 28-point underdog in that game.

Northwestern running back Caleb Komolafe scored on a 9-yard rushing touchdown with 4:51 remaining to give his team the lead back for good. On Penn State's following possession, quarterback Drew Allar went down with an injury and he was carted to the locker room.

Kent State's long national nightmare is finally over. The Golden Flashes snapped the nation's longest losing streak against FBS opponents in dominant fashion Saturday and advanced to 2-4 on the year with a big win against UMass, which remains winless in its first season back with the MAC. This is Kent State's first win against an FBS program since Nov. 26, 2022. It's also the program's first conference win in that same span. The Flashes have also exceeded their win total from each of the last two seasons.
