LOOK: North Carolina reveals new football uniforms for 2015 w/ argyle
North Carolina and Nike unveiled a new brand identity on Monday for all 28 varsity sports.
North Carolina and Nike unveiled a new set of uniforms as part a new brand identity for all 28 varsity sports. While some teams have been experimenting with color schemes and logos, Nike and the school have re-worked some classic aspects of the UNC brand to create a new look that balances old school traditions with modern flavors.
The school has updated the interlocking “NC” logo, though the changes are subtle, and reinforced the use of “Carolina Blue” as part of an #OurBlue campaign. All 28 teams will use blue and white as its primary colors, using Navy blue, black and metallic silver as secondary colors.
“We are excited to once again partner with Nike, one of the most recognizable brands in the world, to help us refresh and refine our marks and logos,” athletic director Bubba Cunningham said. “The changes are subtle, but they celebrate our history and create consistency as we further seek to distinguish our brand. This is our blue and we’re proud of it.”
Perhaps the most unique change is a small stylistic one: the UNC argyle, designed by Alexander Julian and used by the basketball team since 1991, will be a part of every team’s uniforms.
The argyle will be most noticeable on the new football uniforms, which are switching back to a classic Carolina blue and white look just one year after a major reboot.
