Miami is underway with spring practice and drama has already started thanks to some since-deleted comments from cornerback Antonio Crawford.

Crawford is a returning starter at the nickel back position. On Saturday he wrote via Twitter, “I’m like a piece of gold that gets treated like a piece of silver, therefore I’m out!!” The tweet was deleted on Sunday afternoon, but questions remain regarding his status with the team.

The Palm Beach Post's Matt Porter writes that Crawford is still a student at UM, and a source told Porter this a good chance the senior cornerback will remain with the Hurricanes.

Al Golden addressed the issue Sunday by acknowledging that "everybody's frustrated" with there being so few starting jobs available for a full roster of players, but he refused to detail any concerns relating directly to Crawford.

"Any time there’s an internal issue, we don’t communicate that publicly,” Golden said, according to the Palm Beach Post. “If that is the case, if that’s what his decision is, then we’ll make that clear to you guys.

“But in terms of anything from a personal matter, I can’t even tell you how many – with 114 kids, we go through a lot of this and it’s just a different era. A lot of it’s played out publicly, so if that’s his case, we’ll release it [to the media]. We hope it’s not the case, but we’ll go from there.”

Crawford has played in every game since arriving at Miami (38 in total) and been the primary nickel back for the last two seasons.
