PHOTO: Virginia Tech helmets to honor Newtown, Blacksburg victims
Virginia Tech will be wearing special helmets in the Russell Athletic Bowl to commemorate the 58 victims in the Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook Elementary shootings.
Virginia Tech will be wearing special helmets on Friday for the Russell Athletic Bowl against Rutgers. The helmets will honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting and the campus shooting in Blacksburg in 2007.
The coaches will be wearing the same ribbon from the helmet, and the jerseys will have one stitched on as well. The Virginia Tech community can relate to the pain in Newtown, Conn., right now, less than five years after a gunman opened fire on the Tech campus in Blacksburg, killing 32 people and wounding 17 others.
Christian Bruey, of WFTV, shared a picture of the reported helmet on Monday.
