UCLA senior offensive guard Alberto Cid will take a medical retirement due to a concussion, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday.

The 6-foot-2, 325-pounder transferred to UCLA from Citrus Junior College and started seven games for the Bruins the past two seasons.

Cid was expected to be a key backup this fall, so his retirement deals a small blow to the depth of the Bruin line. His departure could pave the way for touted incoming freshmen Caleb Benenoch, Christian Morris and Kenny Lacy to make immediate impacts in the two-deep.
