Alford elected free agency Sunday.
Alford was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday after clearing waivers, but he'll choose to become a free agent rather than reporting to the minor-league club. The 27-year-old appeared in 51 games with the Pirates over the last two seasons and slashed .234/.309/.401 with five homers, 14 runs, 11 RBI and five stolen bases.
