Cousins was designated for assignment by the Astros on Tuesday.
Houston claimed Cousins off waivers from the Brewers in late July, but he's now been cut loose from the 40-man roster after allowing eight earned runs in eight innings of relief with Triple-A Sugar Land. Michael Brantley (shoulder) has been activated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.
