Chris Mazza: Elects free agency

Mazza cleared waivers and elected free agency Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mazza was designated for assignment by the Rays on Monday and will choose to become a free agent rather than reporting to Triple-A Durham. He allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings over two relief appearances in the majors this year.
