Burdick was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Burdick played somewhat regularly over the last few weeks, but he hit just .171 (14-for-82), so the Marlins decided to send him back to the minors to open up a roster spot for the returning Avisail Garcia (hamstring). Burdick could rejoin the big club before the season ends, but if he does, he likely won't have as clear a path to playing time.
