Cruz (shoulder) is starting at designated hitter and batting third in Friday's series opener versus the Padres.
Cruz is ready to go Friday after missing Wednesday's loss to the Cubs with right shoulder soreness. The 42-year-old is currently in the middle of a power drought, failing to hit a homer over 112 at-bats in his last 33 games.
