Baez was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Baez made two appearances in the majors last season for San Diego, allowing just one hit and no earned runs. However, he will need to improve upon his 8.44 ERA and 2.13 WHIP in Triple-A from last season before the team can feel comfortable keeping him in the majors.
