Brett was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Brett was once a promising prospect in the Rays system, but after missing the entire 2016 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, the team non-tendered him in the offseason. A healthy Brett re-signed with the team on a minor-league deal in December that included an invitation to spring training, but his 7-of-18 showing from the plate in Grapefruit League play wasn't enough for him to secure an Opening Day roster spot. After a year away from the game, the Rays likely want to see Brett see some extended time at Triple-A Durham before potentially considering him for a promotion.
