  • James Outman CF | DET

Tigers' James Outman: Delivers go-ahead home run

Outman went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Royals.

Outman supplied most of Detroit's offense Thursday when he took John Schreiber deep in the seventh inning, giving him four home runs on the season. While the blast proved decisive, it has otherwise been a difficult month for the outfielder, who owns a .128 batting average (6-for-47) and 42.6 percent strikeout rate across 16 games in July. Overall, Outman has struggled to a .159/.218/.297 slash line this season.

  • Royals' Isaac Collins: Blasts sixth home run

Collins went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers.

Collins broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning by taking Troy Melton deep for his sixth long ball of the season. The outfielder hasn't gone consecutive contests without a hit since June 9 and is batting .297 over that 35-game stretch. On the season, Collins is slashing .245/.346/.372 with 17 doubles, one triple, 34 RBI, 37 runs scored and six stolen bases across 93 games.

  • Jesus Sanchez DH | ARI

Blue Jays' Jesus Sanchez: Begins rehab assignment

Sanchez (ankle) began a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League on Thursday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Sanchez has been participating in running and hitting drills at the Jays' complex in Florida since July 6, though Thursday marks the first time he's played in a game after landing on the IL with a sprained ankle in late June. He'll move up to Single-A Dunedin on Friday before joining Triple-A Buffalo early next week, seemingly putting him on pace to rejoin the big club at the end of July or early August.

  • Royals' Jac Caglianone: Sitting again Thursday

Caglianone (shoulder) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Caglianone will now miss a second consecutive start after injuring his shoulder while making a diving attempt in the outfield during Tuesday's contest. Nick Loftin will start in right field and bat eighth while Caglianone takes another day to recover.

  • Orioles' Johnathan Rodriguez: Designated for assignment

The Orioles designated Rodriguez for assignment Thursday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Yohel Pozo. Rodriguez, 26, has slashed only .177/.288/.301 in parts of three big-league seasons.

  • Rudy Martin LF | TOR

Blue Jays' Rudy Martin: Claimed by Blue Jays

The Blue Jays claimed Martin off waivers from the Orioles on Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Martin was traded from the Royals to the Orioles last week and is now on the move again without having played in any games in the Baltimore organization. The 30-year-old outfielder has slashed .284/.414/.441 with eight home runs and 33 stolen bases between the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season. Martin will presumably report to Triple-A Buffalo.

  • Rays' Cedric Mullins: Out against right-hander

Mullins is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto.

Blue Jays starter Shane Bieber has been pummeled by righties this season (1.140 OPS), so the lefty-swinging Mullins will begin the game on the bench. Righty bat Jonny DeLuca is grabbing a start in center field for Tampa Bay.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | HOU

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Absent from lineup

Varsho is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Rays.

Righty Casey Legumina is opening for the Rays before lefty Ian Seymour handles bulk relief, so the lefty-swinging Varsho will begin the festivities on the bench. Varsho -- who has gone just 8-for-56 at the plate in July -- will yield center field to Myles Straw.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Back in majors

The Blue Jays recalled Schneider from Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.

Schneider has slashed a disappointing .153/.282/.296 in the majors this season but has been swinging a hot bat at Buffalo with a 1.128 OPS and five home runs in July. He should see some starts against left-handed pitching.

  • Trevor Larnach LF | MIN

Twins' Trevor Larnach: Out of lineup against righty

Larnach is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Cleveland.

Guardians righty Gavin Williams has reverse splits, with righties posting a .791 OPS as compared to a .652 OPS by lefties, thus the lefty-swinging Larnach gets a breather. Austin Martin will patrol left field and bat seventh in the series finale.
