Rangers' Rowdy Tellez: Two straight absences to close season

Tellez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Rangers' Joc Pederson: Sitting against southpaw

Pederson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

The left-handed-hitting Pederson will remain absent from the starting nine for the second straight day to close out the season while the Guardians send another southpaw (Logan Allen) to the hill. Adolis Garcia will serve as Texas' designated hitter in Pederson's stead.

  • Nathan Lukes RF | TOR

Blue Jays' Nathan Lukes: Idle against southpaw

Lukes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

With lefty Ian Seymour on the bump for Tampa Bay, Lukes will head to the bench along with fellow lefty-hitting regular Andres Gimenez. Toronto will turn to Myles Straw in left field in Lukes' stead.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Resting up for finale

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Diaz will be rested along with fellow veteran Brandon Lowe in the season finale. Jonathan Aranda will serve as the Rays' designated hitter in place of Diaz, who has hit .300 with 25 home runs, three steals, 83 RBI and 79 runs in 150 games.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

    Rays' Brandon Lowe: Idle Sunday

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Tristan Gray will start at second base in place of Lowe in the season finale. Unless he's used off the bench, Lowe will finish the campaign with a .256 batting average, 31 home runs, three stolen bases, 83 RBI and 79 runs.

  • Rays' Chandler Simpson: Idle Sunday

  • Taylor Ward LF | BAL

Angels' Taylor Ward: Resting up Sunday

Ward is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

The Angels have been easing up Ward's workload while the season winds down, as he'll hit the bench for the second time in four games. Unless he ends up being used as a reserve Sunday, Ward will wrap up his eighth big-league campaign with a .228/.317/.476 slash line, 36 home runs, four stolen bases, 103 RBI and 86 runs in 156 games.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

Moncada will take a seat for a third straight game to close out the season as the Angels go with Luis Rengifo at third base. The 30-year-old Moncada is headed for free agency this winter, and his lack of starts in the final series of the season could be an indication that the Angels aren't interested in re-signing him. Over 289 plate appearances, Moncada has slashed .234/.336/.448 with 12 home runs, 35 RBI and 39 runs.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Schanuel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Schanuel recently returned from a wrist injury, and though the Angels haven't indicated that he suffered an aggravation of the issue, he'll be held out of the lineup for a second straight game to close out the season. Carter Kieboom will fill in for Schanuel at first base.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Receiving rest for finale

O'Hoppe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

O'Hoppe will take a seat after he started behind the plate each of the Halos' previous three contests. Unless he's needed off the bench to replace starting catcher Sebastian Rivero, O'Hoppe will close out the season with a .214 average, 19 home runs, two stolen bases, 43 RBI and 35 runs across 448 plate appearances.
