  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Hits bench Sunday

Moncada is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers. Moncada will give way to Hanser Alberto at third base after occupying the position in each of Chicago's last nine games. Since returning earlier this month following a stint on the injured list, Moncada is slashing .264/.328/.358 with zero home runs, one stolen base, eight runs and seven RBI over 15 games.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Three hits, three RBI

Moncada went 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored Friday against the Tigers. Moncada snapped a four-game hitless streak with an RBI triple in the fifth inning. He chipped in an additional two knocks to tally his third multi-hit performance in 14 games since he returned from a back injury. Though it's been a limited sample due to the injury, Moncada has shown significant steps forward in limiting his strikeout rate (21.3 percent) while also hitting for power (.170 ISO) across 94 plate appearances this season.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Sitting out Thursday

Moncada is not in the White Sox' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Guardians. It looks to be a routine day off for Moncada. The hot-hitting Jake Burger will handle third base against Logan Allen and the Guardians.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Adds steal Wednesday

Moncada went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Guardians. Moncada has gone 6-for-15 (.400) with three doubles and two RBI over his last four games. The steal was his first of the season, and he hasn't swiped more than three bags in any of the last four campaigns. The 27-year-old has regained a starting role at third base since returning from a back injury, and he's slashing .310/.344/.534 with two home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored and seven doubles through 61 plate appearances this season.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: First hits since activation

Moncada went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored Saturday against the Astros. Moncada returned from the injured list Friday after missing a month due to back discomfort. He went hitless in his return but appeared to have knocked off the rust Saturday by tallying his second multi extra-base hit game of the campaign. Moncada has been limited by a few different injuries in the first six weeks of the season, though he's managed to maintain a .319 average and .386 wOBA across 48 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Activated from injured list

Moncada (back) was activated Friday from the 10-day injured list. Moncada is set to return to action for the White Sox in Friday night's series opener against the visiting Astros after missing a full month due to lingering lower-back discomfort. He was off to an encouraging start before the early season injury, boasting a .308/.325/.564 batting line with two home runs and four doubles through nine games. He'll hit cleanup Friday.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Likely back Friday

Moncada (back) is expected to be activated from the injured list Friday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol had hinted previously that it was a good possibility, and Moncada not being in Triple-A Charlotte's lineup Thursday is a good indication his time there on a rehab assignment is over. The third baseman has been on the shelf since mid-April with a nagging back injury. He had an .889 OPS with two homers in nine games before getting hurt.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Good chance to return over weekend

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol told reporters before Tuesday's game against the Royals that there's a good chance Moncada (back) returns over the weekend series against the Astros, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Grifol seemed to rule out Moncada returning for the series against the Royals, but it seems likely the infielder will be back in the lineup by the end of the weekend. Moncada has been out since the middle of April with his back injury, and he should resume everyday duties once healthy.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Might not return until this weekend

Moncada (back) could remain on his rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte a bit longer, with a return from the 10-day injured list coming perhaps this weekend for the beginning of the White Sox's homestand, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Manager Pedro Grifol said Sunday that he wouldn't rule out Moncada being activated ahead of Monday's series opener in Kansas City, but all signs point to the third baseman continuing his rehab assignment a little while longer. Moncada has gone 5-for-9 with a home run in his first three rehab games, so his bat looks ready. However, the White Sox want to make sure the back injury that has kept him out since mid-April is behind him.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Could be activated Monday

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that he hasn't ruled out the possibility of Moncada (back) being activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Monday's game in Kansas City, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "[Monday is] pretty soon [for a return], but we have to communicate with him after [Sunday's] game to see how he feels," Grifol said of Moncada. Moncada has been on the shelf since April 14 due to a disc issue, but the 27-year-old was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte earlier this weekend and has gone 2-for-6 with a walk and an RBI through his first two contests with the affiliate. Though Grifol's comments suggest that it's more likely that the team will wait until later in the upcoming week to activate Moncada, the White Sox could expedite the infielder's return if he checks out fine after playing seven innings in the field for Charlotte on Sunday. Until the White Sox formally reinstate Moncada, Hanser Alberto should serve as the team's primary option at third base.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Beginning assignment Friday

Moncada (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The team hasn't indicated how long it plans on keeping Moncada on assignment, but it's a promising sign nonetheless for the 27-year-old third baseman. Moncada was slashing .308/.325/.564 through 40 plate appearances before back soreness forced him onto the injured list April 11.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Nearing rehab assignment

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol suggested Wednesday that Moncada (back) is close to beginning a rehab assignment, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. There's no set day yet, but Grifol noted that Moncada got his uniform dirty while participating in drills Wednesday in Chicago. The third baseman landed on the injured list April 11 due to lower-back soreness and was later diagnosed with a disc issue. Jake Burger continues to draw everyday starts at the hot corner for the White Sox.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Has disc issue in back

Moncada is dealing with a disc issue in his back and will not be ready for a rehab assignment during the White Sox' April 28-May 4 homestand, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. General manager Rick Hahn noted Thursday that Moncada is improving and it's unlikely to be an injury which requires surgery. However, the third baseman still needs some more down time before he's ready to return to game action. It would appear Moncada is multiple weeks away from a return.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Not expected back this week

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Wednesday that Moncada (back) isn't expected to return from the 10-day injured list by the end of the week, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Moncada will need a rehab assignment before being activated, and it's not clear when he'll be ready to report to an affiliate. Grifol has said that the team wants to make sure the third baseman is 100 percent recovered from his back issue before returning from the IL, so it's clear the White Sox are proceeding cautiously. Jake Burger's strong play at the hot corner allows the White Sox to be deliberate with Moncada.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Feeling better

Moncada (back) told White Sox manager Pedro Grifol on Monday that he's feeling better, but the manager said Tuesday that Moncada won't return until he's 100 percent, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. "I haven't spoke to him today," Grifol said. "He was better yesterday. Not sure how close he is to getting back. But he's making improvements. When he does come back, I want him to be feeling good and not at 80 percent or 75 percent." Grifol's quote would seem to suggest Moncada's return isn't imminent, although there's nothing definitive on the third baseman's status. General manager Rick Hahn indicated previously that he hoped Moncada could return during the team's April 21-26 road trip. Jake Burger's performance at third base seemingly makes it easier to take things slowly with Moncada.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Hopes to return on road trip

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Friday that he's hopeful Moncada (back) can return sometime during the team's April 21-26 road trip, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Moncada is first eligible for activation at the beginning of the trip April 21. The third baseman was finally placed on the injured list Friday after being out all week with lower-back soreness. It sounds like his absence could be a short one, but much will depend on how he progresses in the coming days.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Sent to injured list

Moncada was placed on the 10-day injured list by the White Sox on Friday, retroactive to April 11, with lower-back soreness. Moncada's recovery had been coming along more slowly than anticipated and the team decided to go ahead and make an IL move. He'll be eligible to return April 21 and would seem to have a decent chance to be back at that time. Jake Burger and Hanser Alberto will probably get the first crack to fill in at third base, with Lenyn Sosa and Romy Gonzalez also potentially in the mix.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Might need IL stint

Moncada (back) no longer is expected back Friday and could instead require a stint on the injured list, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. A trip to the IL looks to be just a possibility, but even if the White Sox aren't ready to make that move yet, Moncada doesn't appear ready to play. The third baseman has been on the shelf all week with a back issue that is coming along slowly. Chicago has been using Hanser Alberto and Jake Burger at the hot corner during Moncada's absence.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Likely out until Friday

Moncada (back) is expected to remain sidelined for the final two games of the White Sox's series with the Twins on Tuesday and Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Moncada sat out Monday's 4-3 win with back tightness and looks poised to miss at least two more games. The White Sox have an off day Thursday before beginning a home series Friday with Baltimore, so perhaps Moncada will be ready to play by this weekend. Hanser Alberto and Jake Burger could see time at the hot corner while Moncada is banged up.

  • White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Out Monday with back soreness

Moncada sat out Monday's game against the Twins with back soreness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Moncada got the day off with Hanser Alberto handling the hot corner in the victory over Minnesota. The switch-hitting infielder should be considered day-to-day with a chance to return Tuesday against the Twins.
