DeRozan (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) erupted for 38 points (11-24 FG, 16-17 FT) and added six assists, four rebounds and one steal in 34 minutes Sunday in the Bulls' 115-110 win over the Lakers.
Chicago was still without several key players due to COVID-19-related absences as the team returned to action after having its previous two games postponed, but DeRozan's ability to clear health and safety protocols at least gave the Bulls an offensive centerpiece. With co-star Zach LaVine still in the protocols, DeRozan took on a massive 41.3 usage rate and was able to match his season high in scoring thanks to some efficient, high-volume shooting from the free-throw line. LaVine is expected to remain out through Christmas, so DeRozan should enjoy at least two more games of elevated usage during Chicago's upcoming three-game week.
