Knicks' Tony Wroten: Released by Knicks

Wroten was waived by the Knicks on Wednesday, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.

Wroten played in just eight games with the Sixers last season while coming back from a torn ACL, but was eventually cut and picked up by the Knicks in March. The Knicks brought him in for some rehab with the expectation that he could be a future asset once healthy, but Wednesday's acquisitions of Derrick Rose and Justin Holiday made the 23-year-old expendable. Wroten plans to participate in the summer league to show potential suitors that he's back to full health following the ACL tear, and if he looks good during those exhibitions, a team could bring him in to serve as a backup at point guard.
