Mayo was "dismissed and disqualified" from the NBA for violating the NBA/NBPA's Anti-Drug Program, Marc J. Spears of ESPN reports.
While the specifics of Mayo's violation are not known at this time, it will be two years before the 28-year-old shooting guard can appeal for reinstatement into the NBA. Once the top high school recruit in the country, Mayo has struggled mightily after a very promising start to his NBA career. Despite those struggles, Mayo likely would have had no issues finding a team this offseason given the lack of shooting guards in this free agent class, but now the former third overall will likely be playing overseas for at least the next two seasons.
