Theis tallied 20 points (8-12 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 34 minutes during Tuesday's 114-111 win over the Pacers. Theis was extremely efficient, scoring 20-plus for the second time in his last 10 tilts. The 27-year-old big man has been playing the best basketball of his career over the last couple months, and he has established himself as a viable option in most fantasy formats.
Theis scored 16 points (7-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) in 27 minutes during Tuesday's 129-120 loss to the Nets. He also added two rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Theis has embraced a bigger role offensively of late, as he has scored in double digits in eight of his last nine contests since a two-game absence in early February. Theis has settled as the team's starting center, and he is averaging 14.1 points with 9.2 rebounds during that nine-game stretch.
Theis mustered eight points (3-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds, three blocks and three assists across 39 minutes during Friday's 111-110 loss to the Rockets. Theis continued to step up, averaging a double-double of 15 points and 11.2 rebounds in his last five games. He also played a career-high 39 minutes despite facing a small-ball Rockets team, suggesting head coach Brad Stevens may entrust the third-year Celtic the same crucial role moving forward.
Theis generated 16 points (6-9 FG, 0-2 3pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal over 26 minutes in Wednesday's 114-103 road win at Utah. Theis delivered another underappreciated yet effective performance as the unheralded fifth starter for Boston. Over this four-game road trip, Theis averaged a double-double of 16.8 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting a diligent 64.1 percent from the field. What doesn't show up in the box score is Theis' uncanny ability to screen defenders while Boston's wings drive to the basket. Look for Theis' minutes to decline slightly Saturday at home versus the Rockets' small ball lineup.
Theis exploded for 25 points (9-14 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 16 rebounds and one block over 28 minutes in Friday's 127-117 win at Minnesota. Sluggish defensive efforts from both Minnesota and Boston led to Theis delivering career highs in both points and rebounds. Certainly the absence of Karl-Anthony Towns was also helpful. Nonetheless, Theis has now started in 48 games for Boston after only registering five starts during his first two seasons with the Celtics. Hopefully the German big man can stay healthy as durability has been an issue for Theis since he entered the NBA from the Bundesliga.
