  • Pacers' Daniel Theis: Traded to Indiana

Theis was traded from the Celtics to the Pacers on Friday along with four other players and a 2023 first-round pick in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Theis was acquired by the Celtics via trade in February and provided some quality minutes as a reserve during Boston's run to the 2022 NBA Finals. In 47 appearances last season with the Rockets and Celtics, Theis averaged 8.2 points and 4.9 rebounds across 20.8 minutes per contest.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Moving back to bench

Theis will come off the bench for Monday's Game 4 against Miami, George Balekji of NESN reports. Theis got the start in Game 3 with Robert Williams (knee) sidelined, but with Williams back in the lineup Monday, the German big man will shift back to a reduced role off the bench. Theis finished Game 3 with one point, three rebounds, one assist and two turnovers in 11 minutes.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Starting for injured Williams

Theis will start Saturday's Game 3 against the Heat, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports. With Robert Williams (knee) sidelined, coach Ime Udoka will opt to give Theis the nod, rather than Grant Williams, next to Al Horford in the frontcourt. Theis started the first four games of the Celtics' playoff run against the Nets, where he averaged 8.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.0 minutes.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Perfect from field in Game 5

Theis totaled 11 points (5-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt), one rebound and one block over 11 minutes during Wednesday's 110-107 loss to Milwaukee in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals round. With Robert Williams (knee) out for a second straight game, Theis once again captured a minor rotation role. After going scoreless Monday, Theis was able to provide more of an offensive boost for Boston.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Back to bench

Theis will come off the bench during Sunday's Game 1 matchup against the Bucks, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports. Robert Williams (knee) will return to the starting lineup Sunday after coming off the bench during his first two games back following knee surgery. Across 14 games as a reserve with Boston, Theis has averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 14.0 minutes.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Efficient performance in win

Theis provided 15 points (7-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, two assists and one steal in 31 minutes during Wednesday's 114-107 win over Brooklyn. After a poor shooting night in Game 1, Theis bounced back with an efficient performance Wednesday en route to his seventh double-digit scoring outing over his last nine games. During that stretch, the German big man has averaged 12.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 27.8 minutes per game. As long as Robert Williams (knee) remains sidelined, Theis figures to be an important piece of Boston's rotation.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Meager production in Game 1 win

Theis posted four points (1-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and one steal over 20 minutes in Sunday's 115-114 Game 1 win over the Nets. Boston will need better efforts from Theis, especially with Robert Williams (knee) out, if it wants to get by Brooklyn. While Theis started, reserves Grant Williams and Derrick White played more minutes as the Celtics tried to match Brooklyn's smaller, quicker lineup. For the rest of the series, Theis may continue to match Nets center Andre Drummond's modest minutes, as both bigs play a similar old-school style. But when the pace picks up, Theis will probably find himself on the bench.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Stellar offensive performance

Theis posted 22 points (8-12 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), five rebounds and three assists across 32 minutes during Thursday's 127-121 loss to Milwaukee. Theis drew his fifth start over Boston's last six games and tied his season highs in made field goals, made three-pointers and points. Over his last six appearances, the German big man has averaged 13.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 28.8 minutes per game. He figures to continue garnering a sizable role for the Celtics as long as Robert Williams (knee) remains sidelined.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Solid game in starting role

Theis provided 15 points (6-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and one assist over 30 minutes before fouling out of Wednesday's 117-94 win over the Bulls. The Celtics elected to go big against the Bulls, and it turned out to be the right decision. Rather than play small ball with Derrick White or Payton Pritchard, the Celtics seem to prefer a trio of Jayson Tatum, Al Horford and Theis in the front. Theis logged his third connective start, and the team should continue calling his number as long as Robert Williams (knee) remains sidelined.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Shifts back to bench

Theis will come off the bench Wednesday against the Heat, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. Theis posted a 13-points, 10-rebound double-double Monday against the Raptors but will head to the bench with Al Horford (personal) rejoining the lineup. Theis should still be more involved as a reserve since Robert Williams (knee) is out for the next month.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Double-doubles in relief

Theis contributed 13 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal over 41 minutes during Monday's 115-112 overtime loss to Toronto. With Robert Williams (knee) and Al Horford (personal) out, Theis saw extended time and delivered his first double-double with the Celtics. The team is currently deciding on a course of action for Williams, but it appears that he could be out for a while. Theis becomes a solid waiver wire add as a result.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Starting with Williams out

Theis is starting Monday's game against the Raptors, Brian Robb of The Springfield Republican reports. The 29-year-old will make his first start since being re-acquired by the Celtics in February, and it could be a more regular role for him down the stretch since Robert Williams (knee) is out indefinitely with a torn meniscus. Theis has averaged 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.9 blocks in 14 games off the bench for Boston but is now poised for a more significant workload.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Posts productive line Monday

Theis ended with nine points (4-6 FG, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds and one block across 19 minutes before fouling out of Monday's 132-123 victory over the Thunder. Theis enjoyed an action-packed 19 minutes of court time, falling one point and two boards shy of a double-double before fouling out. This was the big man's best rebounding performance since Feb. 15, when he pulled down nine boards against the 76ers. Theis has played exclusively as a reserve since joining Boston in mid-February, reaching 20 minutes just twice across 12 games.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Blocks four shots Tuesday

Theis closed Tuesday's 135-87 victory over Philadelphia with five points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3Pt), nine rebounds, four blocks and two assists over 20 minutes. In his debut game for his second stint with Boston, Theis came off the bench and established a new season high in blocks. He also tied Al Horford for second on the team in rebounds behind Jayson Tatum (12). The 29-year-old big man spent his first three and a half seasons of his career with Boston and appears to have picked up right where he left off. However, when Robert Williams (calf) returns to the rotation, Theis will likely see a slight decrease in playing time.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Available Tuesday

Theis (conditioning) will be available for Tuesday's matchup with the 76ers, Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reports. Theis will be available to make his season debut for Boston after being acquired via trade in exchange for Dennis Schroder and Romeo Langford. The veteran big man is expected to have his minutes monitored as he returns to game shape. Theis has only appeared in 11 contests since Nov. 29, as he was displaced by the youth movement in Houston.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Not available Sunday

Theis (recently traded) won't play Sunday against Atlanta, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports. Theis' return to Boston will be postponed as the logistics behind his trade haven't been resolved. His next chance to make his season debut for the Celtics will be Tuesday against the 76ers. However, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports that even when he is deemed available, it will take some time for Theis to build his conditioning back up because of his lack of minutes with Houston.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Questionable Sunday

Theis (recently traded) is questionable for Sunday's game against Atlanta. Theis was dealt from Houston to Boston on Thursday but was unable to suit up Friday. He'll likely serve as the backup center once he's cleared to play.

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Unavailable Friday

  • Celtics' Daniel Theis: Iffy to play Friday

Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said he's uncertain if Theis will be available to play Friday against the Nuggets, Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston reports. Boston was active ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, acquiring Derrick White and Theis while shipping out seven players (Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, P.J. Dozier, Bol Bol, Dennis Schroder, Enes Freedom and Bruno Fernando). In his return to Boston, Theis should go from being out of the rotation in Houston to settling in as the backup center behind Robert Williams. Forsberg notes that Theis isn't scheduled to arrive in Boston until later Friday, so the Celtics could be inclined to hold him out ahead of the 7:30 p.m. ET tipoff and give him a practice or two to get acclimated.
