Brandon Smith: Cut loose

Smith was waived by Carolina on Tuesday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

After spending a fourth-round pick on Smith just one year ago, the team has decided to move on. The 22-year-old appeared in 12 games (one start) for Carolina last year, and he logged eight tackles before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
