Kyle Shurmur: Could see first NFL action

Shurmur and Garrett Gilbert could be options to start at quarterback in Tuesday's game against Philadelphia with both Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Shurmur has been on Washington's practice squad throughout the year, while Gilbert was with the Patriots' practice squad before signing with Washington on Friday. It sounds like Gilbert's NFL experience may win out over Shurmur's familiarity with the playbook, and there's also perhaps some chance of either Heinicke or Allen being cleared by Tuesday. Allen was placed on the COVID list Wednesday, with Heinicke then joining him two days later.
