Philip Rivers: Auditioning for Colts

Rivers will work out with the Colts on Tuesday and could sign with their practice squad, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The Colts suffered a significant blow to their playoff hopes in a Week 14 loss to the Jaguars when Daniel Jones suffered a torn Achilles. Riley Leonard (knee) is projected to take over as the starter, though the team is surveying all potential options to fortify their quarterback room. While he had an excellent career, Rivers hasn't played in the NFL since 2020 and has most recently been the coach of a high school football team. Rivers may join the team as insurance, but it's difficult to imagine him actually suiting up for the team.
