  • Coach Dan Quinn said it's "more than realistic" for Allen (Achilles) to be fully cleared for the start of training camp, Kelsey Conway of the Falcons' official site reports. Allen had surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon back in September and has been participating in speed and agility drills since March. The specifics of the 27-year-old's rehab aren't fully clear, but he's apparently progressing well with the team's minicamp right around the corner.

  • Falcons' Ricardo Allen: Limited in workouts

Allen (Achilles) wasn't seen participating in weight-lifting exercises Wednesday at the Falcons' team facility, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Allen underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon in September and was able to resume speed and agility drills last month. The 27-year-old still participated in foot exercises Wednesday, but it remains unclear where he currently stands in his recovery.

  • Falcons' Ricardo Allen: Taking strides in recovery

Allen (Achilles) returned to the practice field Thursday for speed and agility drills, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Allen suffered a torn Achilles during Atlanta's Week 3 loss to New Orleans, forcing a premature conclusion to his fifth pro campaign, and spelling disaster for a Falcons' secondary that had already seen Keanu Neal (knee) go down for the year during the season opener. The 27-year-old Allen racked up 90 tackles and two interceptions during the magical Super Bowl run of 2016, but with him inactive for 13 games in 2018 the defense limped to a 27th-place finish against the pass. The front office has already jettisoned a couple of defensive backs from the 2018 cast -- including Robert Alford and Brian Poole -- but with the incipient return of Allen and Neal to the active lineup, plus a potential addition or two to the secondary via the draft, Atlanta remains optimistic that a vast improvement could be in store for this unit.

  • Allen recorded five tackles and an interception during Sunday's 31-24 win against the Panthers. Allen secured a vital interception midway through the fourth quarter of Sunday's game to help put the game out of reach. After a pass deflected off of C.J. Anderson's hands, Allen made a leaping grab to get Atlanta the ball back with a two-possession lead midway through the fourth quarter. Though Drew Brees has yet to throw an interception for the Saints this season, Allen may get a shot at recording a pick for the second-straight week due to the pass-heavy nature of the Saints' attack. Brees has attempted at least 627 passes over nine of the past 11 years -- with an average of 13.3 interceptions per season during that span.

  • Falcons' Ricardo Allen: Inks extension with Falcons
    By RotoWire Staff

Allen agreed to a three-year, $19.5 million contract with the Falcons on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Although Allen's stat line from 2017 was not quite as eye-catching as his first two years in the league -- he posted career lows in tackles (54) and interceptions (one) -- the Falcons believe they are locking up a crafty player to plug in at the back end of their defense alongside Keanu Neal. From mid-April to mid-June, Allen declined his restricted-free-agent tender offer, instead electing to participate in voluntary workouts by signing an injury waiver while his long-term status with Atlanta remained unsettled. The 26-year-old safety finally conceded to the restricted tender on the eve of mandatory minicamp, as he and agent Drew Rosenhaus worked out a multi-year deal with the team. Allen's patience has now been rewarded with a contract averaging $6.5 million in annual value, and he projects as a key contributor for a Falcons defense with potential to finish as a top-five D/ST despite their current ADP of 11th in standard ESPN drafts.
