Gonzalez signed his restricted free-agent tender with the Cardinals on Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. In his first full season in Arizona last year, Gonzalez finished fourth in the NFL with 127 points, powered by 31 field goals (fourth) and 34 extra points (tied for 15th). His accuracy was on point as well, as evidenced by him making 89 percent of his field-goal attempts and missing just one PAT. The performance was enough for the Cardinals to place a second-round tender on the kicker, who should be among the league leaders yet again in 2020 supplementing an ascendent offense led by Kyler Murray.
The Cardinals applied a second-round tender to Gonzalez on Monday, Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic reports. The 24-year-old converted 31 of 35 field-goal attempts and 34 of 35 extra-point attempts in 2019, finishing the season fourth in the NFL in points. Gonzalez is a restricted free agent and can still receive an offer sheet from interested teams, but it's unlikely any are willing to fork up a second-round pick.
Gonzalez connected on 31 of 35 field-goal attempts and 34 of 35 point-after tries during the 2019 campaign. Gonzalez lacked consistency during stints with the Browns and Cardinals in his first two pro campaigns, striking true on 70.6 percent of his 34 field-goal attempts in 23 games. On the other hand, he had similar success to 2019 on extra points (33 of 37), so there were signs that competency was lurking. A restricted free agent in March, Gonzalez may move further up the kicker ranks next season if he stays in the desert, as the team embarks on the second year of the Kyler Murray-Kliff Kingsbury experiment.
Gonzalez made two of three field-goal attempts and all three extra-point attempts during Sunday's 27-13 win over Seattle. Gonzalez missed his first field goal since Week 5 when his 45-yard attempt was blocked during the third quarter, though he still converted from 22 and 46 yards Sunday. The 24-year-old is enjoying a fantastic first full season in Arizona, as he's 30-for-34 on field goals and 31-for-32 on extra points through 15 games.
Gonzalez made a 21-yard field goal and five extra points in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Browns. Gonzalez hasn't missed a field goal since Week 5, including four kicks from beyond 40 yards over those nine games. The 24-year-old kicker has been superb this year, making 28 of 31 field goals (90 percent) and 28 of 29 extra points (97 percent).
