• Jets' Mike White: One scintillating start, three duds

  White made four appearances (three starts) in 2021, completing 88 of 132 passes for 953 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions. White had never gotten into a regular-season game before the 2021 season, but the 26-year-old quarterback took the league by storm in his first NFL start, throwing for 405 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 8 upset win over the Bengals. Unfortunately for White, he was unable to replicate that success in any of his other outings, quickly putting an end to the brief quarterback controversy for the Jets. Zach Wilson is the clear quarterback of the future for the franchise after being selected second overall in the 2021 NFL Entry Draft, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Jets bring back White -- who is a restricted free agent -- to serve as Wilson's backup again next season.

• Jets' Mike White: Returns from COVID-19 list

  New York reinstated White (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. White has had one of the lengthier stays on the COVID-19 list of any player over the past two seasons, as he was first deactivated Nov. 23 after testing positive. Just under a month later, White is finally ready to put an end to his five-game absence. Before missing time, White appeared to have fallen behind both Zach Wilson and Joe Flacco on the depth chart at quarterback, so despite his return to full health, the 26-year-old could find himself on the Jets' inactive list Week 16 against Jacksonville.

• Jets' Mike White: Managing non-COVID illness

  Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that White is dealing with a non-COVID-19-related illness, Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. White tested positive for COVID-19 in late November and still resides on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but he's apparently cleared all necessary protocols and has been held up from returning to practice due to an unrelated ailment. Because he hasn't practiced in three weeks, White will likely need to get back on the field by Friday to have a shot at being available Sunday against the Dolphins. Even if he's activated before the weekend, White could be inactive for the contest, as he looks to have fallen behind both Zach Wilson and Joe Flacco on the depth chart.

• Jets' Mike White: Likely out Week 13

  White (llness) isn't expected to clear COVID-19 protocols this week, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. White was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last week after testing positive for the virus, and it's unlikely he returns to the active roster this week. Joe Flacco also was sidelined for Week 12 as a close contact, but he cleared league protocols before being activated Monday.

• Jets' Mike White: Tests positive for COVID-19

  White was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday after testing positive for the virus, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Joe Flacco also landed on the COVID-19 list as a close contact of White's, and both players will be sidelined for this weekend's matchup with Houston. White served as the backup to Flacco during Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, but rookie Zach Wilson (knee) is now set to reclaim the starting job. Josh Johnson will be promoted from the practice squad to handle backup duties, while White will be unavailable until he clears the health and safety protocols.
