Wheatcroft didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Stars, and he'll become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday.
Wheatcroft has spent the past three seasons with AHL Texas, and he logged 10 goals, 17 assists and 30 PIM in 75 regular-season appearances across the past two campaigns. He'll attempt to seek out other opportunities on the open market during the offseason.
