Poulin landed on the waiver wire Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Poulin has underwhelmed since being selected 21st overall in the 2019 NHL Draft, appearing in just six NHL games with the Penguins. He has shown some offensive upside in the minors, garnering 31 points in 41 games last year, so he could be viewed as a reclamation project in some circles. If he clears, he'll head back to the minors, where he figures to play the bulk of his games this year.
