Catenacci and 16 others have been cut from camp and sent to AHL Rochester, The Buffalo News reports.
Catenacci was disappointing in his second pro season, scoring just 12 goals with a minus-20 rating in 50 games with Rochester and failing to register a point in 11 games with the Sabres last year. The gritty, two-way winger still lacks size and consistency, which has been an ongoing issue since he turned pro after a very impressive major junior career. The cut should come to no surprise since Catenacci was facing an uphill battle for a roster spot, but a top-six role should be waiting for him in Rochester. The Sabres signed him to a one-year extension this past summer, and will give him another chance if he plays well.
