Hellberg was claimed off waivers by Ottawa from Seattle on Monday.
Hellberg is expected to join the team ahead of Wednesday's practice. He could start the regular season as Anton Forsberg's backup because of an upper-body injury to Cam Talbot. Talbot is projected to be out for five-to-seven weeks.
