Kakko (illness) scored the overtime winner and added a trio of assists in Monday's 4-3 win over Minnesota at the prospect tournament in Traverse City. Kakko's debut in North America lived up to its lofty billing, as he assisted on each of New York's goals in regulation before potting the winner in OT. He dominated a men's league and Finland this past season, and other prospects didn't fare any better at slowing him down here, so Kakko will now set his sights on delivering against NHL competition.
Kakko (illness) will suit up for Monday's prospect tournament clash with Minnesota. While Kakko will no doubt benefit from the added ice time prior to training camp, the real question will be how he stacks up against the team's veterans, and ultimately, opposing NHL players. The winger is a lock for the Opening Night roster versus Winnipeg on Oct. 3, though where he slots in will be worked out during camp. A second-line role seems the most likely, though some looks with the No. 1 group certainly isn't out of the question. Regardless of where he plays, Kakko figures to push for the 30-goal mark in his rookie season, making him a top-end fantasy option, especially in dynasty leagues.
Kakko (illness) will miss a second consecutive game at the Traverse City Prospect Tournament against Dallas on Saturday. Kakko's much-anticipated debut in a Rangers uniform will have to wait, but he probably has the least to prove among the team's prospects, as the second overall selection from the 2019 draft is pretty much a lock for a roster spot and a prominent role out of the gate. The Rangers have one more game left at this tournament -- they face the WIld on Monday.
