UFC 194 is upon us. The heavily-anticipated bout between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and interim champ Conor McGregor will commence Saturday in Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. While both of these fighters make compelling cases to win this clash of the titans, here's why McGregor will not only beat but dismantle Aldo in this championship fight.
1. McGregor is the younger, more-agile fighter: "The Notorious One" is on as good a run as any fighter in the UFC. McGregor has virtually walked through his last handful of opponents on his way to the interim belt. The only reason its even interim is because Aldo was forced out of their scheduled fight in July with a rib injury. McGregor's last four wins have come via TKO with punches within the first two rounds of the match. McGregor will look to strike furiously and quickly to get Aldo off his feet before he gets comfortable.
2. Ring rust is real: While this will be McGregor's third fight of the year, Aldo has not stepped in the ring since October 2014. That's a long layoff for anyone. Just ask new women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm. She doesn't even want to wait until July for her rematch with Ronda Rousey because it's too far away, according to her manager.
Aldo may be in the best shape of his life, but nothing can prepare you for actually stepping into the octagon and taking live shots. McGregor's overall training plus recent action will give him the advantage.
3. McGregor is the better fighter right now: Yeah, I said it. All I've heard all week is how much better Aldo is at actual fighting. However, Aldo's last four fights have all gone deep into the match, with three of those fights going the distance. McGregor will look to take advantage of a defensive-minded Aldo early and often.
If McGregor can keep this fight upright where he likes it, "The Notorious One" is leaving Las Vegas with both championship belts over his shoulders.
