Scores at the British Open aren't bad so far Thursday but it seems like golfers aren't really thrilled with the layout of the course.

Usually we see these kinds of comments at the US Open when officials try to make the greens like glass and the fairways as tall as your golf bag, but multiple guys (big names, too) complained after their first 18 holes at Muirfield.

Here's a sampling:

Zach Johnson:

"I was shocked with a couple of the pin placements."

Phil Mickelson:

"I don't see anyone in the afternoon with a realistic chance [of shooting 69, which is what Mickelson shot]. I feel bad for these guys"

Ian Poulter:

"Unfortunately the guys this afternoon will struggle with a few pin positions. 8th hole is a joke, 18th needs a windmill & clown face."

I actually laughed out loud at that tweet from Poulter, though I'm sure a lot of the golfers weren't laughing. These quotes are especially interesting in light of how thrilled everyone has been with the course all week.

The R&A even commented on it Wednesday, saying, "The course is just as we want it. It's hard. It's fast. It's in wonderful condition. I think the players are all enjoying it."

It's almost as if the R&A was just teasing guys during the practice rounds before unveiling the real course when the big-boy tournament started.

If that's the case, these guys better get their big-boy pants on.
