Base from Game 7 of Cubs-Indians World Series reportedly sells for over $100,000
The base where the final out of the 2016 World Series was recorded has reportedly sold for six-figures
The base where the final out of the 2016 World Series was recorded has sold for a record price at auction.
According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the base used at first base for the final two innings of Game 7 last fall was sold for $101,237 in an online auction recently. That is the most ever paid for a baseball base. The base was authenticated by MLB and auctioned on MLB.com.
Here's the final play of the World Series, should you need a reminder:
As far as memorabilia goes, getting the base where the final out of the World Series was recorded is a pretty fantastic get. Especially if it's the base where the Chicago Cubs ended their 108-year championship drought. Dropping six-figures on a base seems like a lot, but something tells me this particular bag will be worth a whole lot more in a few years.
Other 2016 World Series items auctioned off include a base used in Game 5, the first World Series game won by the Cubs at Wrigley Field since 1945. It sold for over $43,000. The on-deck circle used by the Cubs in Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 sold for over $40,000 as well.
