Brewers outfielder arrested on trespass charge in Florida after several warnings
Broxton refused to leave the scene of a fight early Friday morning
Brewers center fielder Keon Broxton was arrested in Tampa in the early morning hours Friday on a misdemeanor trespass charge, reports Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. Police say Broxton refused to leave the scene of a fight.
Here are some more details from Auman:
Police were responding to a Florida Highway Patrol request for backup due to an "active fight" near Howard Avenue and Platt Street in Tampa. According to the arrest report, Broxton was "extremely intoxicated" and had "visible injuries to his face but declined medical attention." When police asked several people to leave an area of closed businesses, the report states that Broxton "became upset and began yelling 'Y'all ain't s--- behind your badges." He was again warned that he was loitering and was "grabbed by one of his friends to remove him from the area."
Police warned Broxton several times before making the arrest, according to Auman. The arrest was made at 3:26 a.m. ET.
Broxton, 26, hit .242/.354/.430 with nine home runs in 75 games in 2016, his rookie season. His season ended on September 16 when he broke his wrist crashing into the wall to make a catch. Broxton is the odds-on favorite to play center field for the 2017 Brewers.
The team has not yet commented on the arrest. It's unclear whether the incident would allow MLB to discipline Broxton under the league's domestic violence policy.
