It seems whatever the Cardinals touch these days turns to gold. Just consider the performance of reserve first baseman Xavier Sruggs on Saturday.

Scruggs, who can be in line for increased usage, entered with just 12 at-bats this season. He left with 16 - and a .500 average. That came courtesy of a 3-for-4 performance against the Cubs in which he scored twice and drove in two more.

The rookie was quite active in an eight-run explosion over the fourth and fifth innings with an RBI single, run-scoring double and two runs.
