Church delivers petitions to Indians to change name, logo
The United Church of Christ has delivered a petition to the Cleveland Indians, asking for a name change and removal of Chief Wahoo logos.

The Cleveland Indians have been served a petition from the United Church of Christ, which asks the ballclub to change the name and get rid of all Chief Wahoo logos.
"For decades, we have spoken out in opposition to the usage of negative stereotypes, and been active in protests against such misuse," said the Rev. Linda Jaramillo, a UCC national officer, in a press release (via Ohio.com). "We will continue to journey in solidarity with our brothers and sisters until this part of our body of humanity is honored and respected."
Not surprisingly, the group has also asked for the NFL's Washington Redskins name to be changed.
The Cleveland MLB team has been known as the Indians since 1915. Prior to that, it was the Cleveland Blues (one season), Cleveland Bronchos (one season) and Cleveland Naps (12 seasons).
