The Cubs and Athletics on Thursday finalized a trade that sends veteran outfielder Chris Coghlan to Oakland in exchange for right-hander Aaron Brooks

Coghlan, 30, is coming off a 2015 season for the Cubs in which he batted .250/.341/.443 (113 OPS+) with 16 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 148 games. He also spent time at five different positions, primarily the outfield corners. Across parts of seven big-league seasons, Coghlan owns an OPS+ of 103. For 2016, the SportsLine projection system tabs him for a productive line of .258/.342/.439 in 2016.

As for Brooks, 25, he's pitched to an ERA of 8.38 and a K/BB ratio of 2.35 in 58 big-league innings. Although he's made 10 starts, Brooks profiles as a reliever. On Chicago's side, their willingness to part with Coghlan of course flows from the surprise re-signing of Dexter Fowler
