Jeff Mathis unavailable Wednesday with sore thumb

Marlins catcher Jeff Mathis is unavailable for Wednesday's game against the Phillies due to a sore right thumb, the Sun Sentinel reports. Mathis suffered the injury in early September and ended up sitting out for seven games.

"We've played a lot of games here and he's been grinding it out pretty good," manager Mike Redmond said. "Hopefully with the day off he'll be back. We'll see."

Mathis is just 1 for 23 since returning from the initial injury last week.
