Mets starting pitcher Jonathon Niese pitched well in his second start of the season Saturday against the Angels, but took a no-decision in a 7-6 win in 13 innings.
Niese tossed his first quality start of the season, allowing three runs in 7 1/3 innings. He left the game with a 4-3 lead, but the bullpen melted down in the ninth inning to cost him the win.
Niese allowed three runs on six hits and a walk in 7 1/3 innings of work, while striking out five and throwing 64 of 96 pitches for strikes. He has a 3.46 ERA through two starts, with nine strikeouts and just two walks in 13 innings of work. He will try to pick up his first win in his next start, Friday against the Braves.
