LOOK: The Cubs and Pirates learn that yes, there is tying in baseball
Rain cut things short in Pittsburgh on Thursday night, so nobody won
On Thursday night, the Cubs and Pirates were tied at 1-1 with one out in the top of the sixth when inclement weather took hold at PNC Park. A delay ensued, and eventually the game was suspended.
Our story, however, does not end there. Please regard the following internet dispatch ...
Tonight's game has been officially suspended & will not be made up.

That's right, people of baseball: a tie. The Cubs have already locked up the NL Central and home-field advantage throughout the NL bracket. As for the Pirates, they've already been eliminated from playoff contention.
As such, Thursday night's affair in Pittsburgh had no real bearing.
As such, no makeup is necessary, and the league has declared a tie. As you can see above, individual stats will count. Said individual stats include another useful start out of Ivan Nova (5.1 IP, 1 R, 5 SO, 0 BB).
Anyhow, we haven't had a tie in MLB since the Astros and Reds on June 30, 2005 -- i.e., more than a decade ago. The Pirates, meantime, haven't tied a game since 1988. For the Cubs, it's been since 1993.
As for the season of note, this tie puts the Pirates at 78-80-1. That means they can still wind up with more wins than losses. So that's something.
Viva la ties, people.
