Mike Trout hits first All-Star leadoff home run since 1989, wins MVP
Mike Trout hit a home run to lead off the game for the AL in the 2015 All-Star Game. He also became the first man ever to win back-to-back All-Star Game MVPs.
CINCINNATI -- Well, that escalated quickly.
The first batter of the 2015 All-Star Game in Great American Ball Park was the reigning AL MVP Mike Trout. And the Angels superstar took NL starter Zack Greinke deep with an opposite field shot that barely cleared the right-field wall (it actually hit the top of the wall and went over).
This marks the first time the leadoff batter has homered in the All-Star Game since 1989, when Bo Jackson pulled it off.

2012: Single
2013: 1-3, double
2014: 2-3, double and triple
2015: Home run
An multi-year All-Star cycle, if you will. Also, if you take the first at-bat in each of his four All-Star Games, that's a cycle.
Regardless, Trout ended up 1-for-3 with a walk. In all, he's hitting .500/.545/1.200 with two doubles, a triple and a home run in the Midsummer Classic. Suffice to say, the stage doesn't bother him.
Trout takes home the All-Star Game MVP, meaning he's the first player to ever win back-to-back All-Star Game MVPs. Only Willie Mays, Gary Carter, Cal Ripken and Steve Garvey had previously won two All-Star Game MVPs.
