Report: Nick Markakis at least three weeks away for Orioles
Nick Markakis' broken thumb will keep him out of action for at least three more weeks.
Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis is still "at least three" weeks away from returning from a broken thumb, the Baltimore Sun reported Monday.
Markakis was hoping doctors would be able to remove pins in the thumb on Monday, but the nature of the break has forced the procedure back at least a week. Markakis told Eduardo Encina of the Sun:
“They want to keep it in another week and it would probably be in a splint for a week or two after that, so I’m probably still a good three weeks away at minimum.”
In 104 games, Markakis has a .298/.363/.471 line with 13 homers and 28 doubles for Baltimore. The club is 62-42 (.596) in games in which he has played, 30-25 (.545) without him. A three-week wait could put him in line to return for the World Series should the Orioles make it that far, but his readiness against major league pitching could be in question by then.
