Actor Tom Sizemore recently spoke to the The Onion's AV Club about his celluloid life and times, and he eventually got around to the subject of playing Pete Rose in the 2004 movie Hustle. Here's what Sizemore had to say about that flick and, more specifically, about his interactions with Rose himself:
I met him; he’s easy not to like. I happen to like him. I happen to like him because I was playing him, also. He yelled at me once. “Do you know what it’s like to be up in the ninth inning of the World Series with two men on base, you’re down by one, there’s a 3-2 coming, and you need to get a base hit to win?” I said, “Of course not. I’ve never been a Major League Baseball player.” Then I was about to ask him, “Do you know what it’s like to be in front of a camera?” And before I said that, he screamed, “Shut the f--- up!”
Sounds about right.
Of course, whenever events occasion a discussion of Pete Rose, we're honor-bound to include this photograph, which is more Pete Rose than Pete Rose himself ...
