Veterans committee doesn't elect anyone to Hall of Fame
The Golden Era Hall of Fame candidates needed 12 of 16 votes from the Veterans Committee to get into the Hall of Fame. Zero players got there, though Tony Oliva and Dick Allen got 11.

SAN DIEGO - The Veterans Committee for the Baseball Hall of Fame has elected no one from the Golden Era ballot, MLB announced in a press conference Monday at the annual Winter Meetings.
The committee chose from a ballot of nine players -- Dick Allen, Ken Boyer, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso, Tony Oliva, Billy Pierce, Luis Tiant and Maury Wills -- and one executive, Bob Howsam. For a breakdown of the candidates, click here.
The committee consisted of 16 members, and 12 votes were needed to gain enshrinement into the Hall of Fame. Allen and Oliva were the top vote-getters, each coming just one vote shy with 11. Kaat got 10 votes, Wills nine and Minoso eight. All others got three or fewer votes.
This vote is totally different than the BBWAA vote, from which the results will be revealed in the middle of January. This committee was comprised of 16 men. The breakdown: Eight current Hall of Famers (Jim Bunning, Rod Carew, Pat Gillick, Fergie Jenkins, Al Kaline, Joe Morgan, Ozzie Smith, Don Sutton), four executives (Jim Frey, David Glass, Roland Hemond, Bob Watson) and four media/historians (Steve Hirdt, Dick Kaegel, Phil Pepe, Tracy Ringolsby).
Any person elected would have joined qualifying players from the BBWAA ballot (the guess here is Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and Craig Biggio are the three who get in on that vote) in enshrinement in Cooperstown this coming summer.
Last time the Golden Era candidates were up for election, one player was chosen: Ron Santo.
The Veterans Committee elects Hall of Famers each year, with a rotating list of categories. The Pre-Integration (1871-1946) group was up for election in 2012 and will be again next year. The Expansion Era (1973-present) election was last year and will happen again in 2016. The Golden Era (1947-72) will again be up for election in 2017. So Allen, Oliva and a few others will have another shot then.
