Lagares has signed a one-year contract with the KBO League's SSG Landers, according to Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency. Instead of joining a minor-league team, Lagares will test his luck in South Korea as part of a championship-contending Landers team. Despite logging a .460 OPS during his stint with the Los Angeles Angels, he will try to replicate more of his Triple-A output from this year. He recorded a .308/.379/.462 slash line and six RBI across seven games.... See More ... See Less

Juan Lagares: Reaches free agency
Lagares declined his outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday and elected free agency. Rather than sticking around in the Angels organization after clearing waivers Tuesday, Lagares decided that he was best off trying his luck elsewhere. Unless any of MLB's other teams have an immediate opening for a reserve outfielder, Lagares will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal if he wants to stick around in affiliated ball. The 33-year-old appeared in 20 games during his month-long stint with the Angels and batted .183/.210/.250 across 62 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Clears waivers
The Angels outrighted Lagares to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. At least for the time being, Lagares looks as though he'll remain in the Angels organization after he cleared waivers upon being designated for assignment last weekend. The Angels promoted Monte Harrison from Salt Lake to replace Lagares as the big club's fourth outfielder.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Designated for assignment
Lagares was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday. Lagares posted a .183/.210/.250 slash line in 20 games since being added to the Angels' big-league roster in late May, and the team finally decided to move on. Monte Harrison had his contract selected in a corresponding move and will step in as the No. 4 outfielder.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Moves to reserve role
Lagares is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Dodgers, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. The 33-year-old started the past six games but will retreat to the bench Tuesday with Taylor Ward (hamstring/neck) back from the injured list and starting in right field. Lagares should now serve as the Halos' No. 4 outfielder, though his .522 OPS doesn't provide much job security.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Likely headed for backup role
Lagares will start in left field and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Yankees, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Lagares will stay in the lineup for the fourth time in the Angels' last five games, but two of his starts came while Taylor Ward was managing a shoulder injury. Ward is picking up his second straight start in right field Tuesday, but the righty-hitting Lagares will shift over to left with the lefty-hitting Brandon Marsh sitting out against Yankees southpaw Jordan Montgomery. Now that Ward is healthy again, Lagares doesn't look as though he'll be in store for anything more than short-side platoon work.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Contract selected by Angels
Lagares' contract was selected by the Angels on Thursday. Lagares rejoined the Angels on a minor-league deal in early May, and he hit .308 with a triple, two doubles, six RBI and three runs over seven games at Triple-A Salt Lake. The 33-year-old is starting in right field and batting seventh Thursday, and he'll provide additional outfield depth while Taylor Ward (shoulder/neck) is sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Signs minor-league deal with Angels
Lagares signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Sunday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Lagares appeared in 112 major-league games with the Angels last year and hit .236 with six homers, 39 runs, 38 RBI and a stolen base. He'll likely head to Triple-A Salt Lake to begin his return to the organization, but he'll be an option to provide outfield depth at some point.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Back in action for season finale
Lagares (back) will start in center field and bat sixth Sunday against the Mariners. Lagares was held out of the lineup for Saturday's 6-4 loss while he dealt with a sore back, but he'll make it back in action for the season finale. Though he received each of his previous four starts in right field, Lagares will shift over to center field with Brandon Marsh (unspecified soreness) getting Sunday off.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Not in Saturday's lineup
Lagares (back) isn't starting Saturday's game against the Mariners. Lagares exited Friday's series opener against Seattle with low back discomfort, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench Saturday. Phil Gosselin, Brandon Marsh and Jose Rojas will start in the outfield from left to right.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Exits with low back discomfort
Lagares was removed from Friday's win over the Mariners with low back discomfort, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Lagares crashed into the wall in right field in the seventh inning of Friday's matchup and was removed from the contest in the next frame. He won't start Saturday against Seattle, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench or whether he'll return to the lineup in Sunday's season finale. Prior to Friday's departure, the 32-year-old went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Knocks in two in win
Lagares went 2-for-4 with a single, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Rangers. Lagares came through with a pair of big hits for the Halos on Wedneday, smacking an RBI double in the second before cashing in another run with a base hit in the sixth. Due to a September slump that has seen Lagares hit just .200, the outfielder has lost some playing time to Jose Rojas. With free agency approaching yet again for the 32-year-old, he's a candidate to be wearing a different uniform come 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Losing work to Rojas
Lagares is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. Lagares is on the bench for the third time in four games and appears to have lost hold of primary duties in right field to Jose Rojas. The Angels will roll out an outfield of Phil Gosselin, Brandon Marsh and Rojas from left to right in the series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Out of Saturday's lineup
Lagares is not in the lineup Saturday against the Athletics. Lagares went 3-for-15 in his past seven games and will take a seat Saturday. Jose Rojas will start in right field for the Halos.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Not starting Thursday
Lagares isn't starting Thursday's game against the White Sox. Lagares started each of the last three games and went 3-for-10 with a solo home run and a walk. Jose Rojas will start in right field while Kean Wong takes over in left.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Hits sixth homer
Lagares went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's loss to Houston. The outfielder's fifth-inning solo shot to center field pulled the Angels into a 1-1 tie, but the offense was unable to muster any additional runs. Though he isn't known as a power hitter, Lagares has gone deep three times in his past eight games. He's batting a meager .182 (4-for-22) over that span, however.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Goes deep in loss
Lagares went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a loss to San Diego. The Padres threatened to win the game in a blowout, but Lagares' two-run shot in the seventh inning started a mini-rally by the Angels and made the final score respectable. The veteran outfielder has never been much of a power threat, and his five homers on the season are just one short of his career high set in 2015 with the Mets.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Goes deep Saturday
Lagares went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Saturday's 4-1 triumph against the Rangers. Lagares opened the game's scoring with his third-inning solo blast to left, though he struck out in his other two at-bats. The long ball was the 32-year-old's second in his last seven games --the same as his total from his first 84 -- and he should see more playing time if he continues to hit well, especially with Justin Upton battling injuries lately.... Angels' Juan Lagares: Piles up three hits Monday
Lagares went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in Monday's 8-7 win over the Yankees. Lagares flew out in his first at-bat but was able to notch a hit his next three times up. He hit a run-scoring triple in the sixth and then singled home what would end up being the game-winning run with two outs and two strikes in the eighth. It was his first three-hit game since August of 2019 as he raised his slash line to .245/.271/.371 with 23 extra-base hits, 30 RBI, 33 runs scored, a steal and 2:54 BB:K over 256 plate appearances. Lagares will have to fight for playing time in a crowded outfield between Justin Upton, Brandon Marsh, Jo Adell and Phil Gosselin.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Juan Lagares: Swats homer Tuesday
Lagares went 2-for-5 with a home run, an additional run scored and three total RBI in a 14-8 win over the Orioles on Tuesday. Lagares capped the Angels' five-run second inning with a two-run homer to center field and knocked in another run with a single in the fourth frame. He has been mostly filling a reserve role of late -- prior to Tuesday, he had logged only three at-bats and hadn't gotten a hit since Aug. 17.... See More ... See Less
