Rodriguez has opted out of his minor-league deal with the Padres and is headed overseas to continue his career, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The 30-year-old corner infielder has consistently put up good minor-league numbers but never got a shot in the majors, so he is a prime candidate to head to a lesser league where he profiles as a regular. He hit .272/.342/.538 with 12 home runs in 45 games with Triple-A El Paso.... See More ... See Less

Rodriguez spent the entire 2021 season at Triple-A Toledo and slashed .290/.362/.565 with 29 home runs, 94 RBI and 67 RBI across 116 games. He'll serve as a non-roster invitee this spring and should be in the mix to make his major-league debut at some point in 2022.... See More ... See Less -

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell3M agoA three-run rally in three pitches. With the bases empty and two outs, Profar walked, Tatis ripped a first-pitch double, and Cronenworth followed with a first-pitch laser into the right-field seats. The Padres lead 3-2, their first lead of the series.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell16H agoDylan Cease is human, even against righties. The Padres’ offense did him no favors. https://t.co/72iTur0EOm

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell18H agoFinal: Phillies 5, Padres 1 Evidently Dylan Cease is fallible -- even against RHHs, who notched 5 hits tonight. (Aside from Bohm's, that was mostly down to poor batted-ball luck.) In any case, the Padres' offense did nothing outside of Eguy Rosario's solo shot. The skid hits 3.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell19H agoAlec Bohm has four two-out RBIs against Dylan Cease tonight, which accounts for as many runs as Cease had allowed in his past three starts combined. The Padres offense, meanwhile, has done very little against Ranger Suárez. They trail 5-0 after 5.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell2D agoFinal: Phillies 9, Padres 3 The Padres fell back below .500 as Joe Musgrove was roughed up for seven runs, including a career-high four homers. Back at third, Manny Machado looked like Manny Machado, and Graham Pauley homered. But Musgrove's implosion dug too deep a hole.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell2D agoGame 29: Phillies at Padres (Nola vs. Musgrove), 6:40 p.m. PT at Petco Park Machado is back — and back at third. Still no Jackson Merrill, who Mike Shildt says “is feeling great” and “pounding the table” to play, but the Padres feel no need to take chances with their 21yo CF. https://t.co/QK5DSTsoIK
