The Dodgers reassigned Telis to minor-league camp Monday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Telis, who signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers in December, was one of two catchers cut from big-league camp Tuesday. The 30-year-old's last big-league action came with the Marlins in 2018, when he slashed .207/.258/.241 over 31 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Tomas Telis: Sent to alternate site
Telis was optioned to the alternate training site Friday. The 29-year-old was promoted from the practice squad Wednesday but was removed from the roster without appearing in a game for the Twins. Telis is unlikely to have much of a role for Minnesota with catching options Mitch Garver, Ryan Jeffers and Willians Astudillo all healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Added to active roster
The Twins recalled Telis from the taxi squad ahead of Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. He'll be joining the active roster as a replacement for utility infielder JT Riddle, who became the fifth Twins player to land on the COVID-19 injured list in the past few days. Telis will likely serve as the No. 3 catcher during his stay with the Twins, allowing Willians Astudillo to serve as more of a utility man for Minnesota.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Telis was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday. Telis was a late arrival to camp but still appeared in 12 spring games and hit .214 with two RBI. The 29-year-old will now serve as organizational depth for the Twins in 2021 and will likely begin the year at Triple-A St. Paul.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Makes spring debut
Telis started at DH and went 0-for-2 in his spring debut in Friday's loss to Atlanta. Telis was a late arrival to spring training due to travel issues but still should get a decent look in exhibition games. He's a long shot to make the roster as a reserve catcher and utility player, however, as the non-roster invitee will likely add depth at Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Not yet at camp
Telis has yet to arrive at camp due to travel issues, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Telis is one of a large handful of players who have faced similar delays as they return to the country for spring training. Assuming his delay is resolved soon, he'll have plenty of time to prepare for Opening Day. Telis is in camp as a non-roster invitee.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Signs as non-roster invitee
Telis signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Thursday as a non-roster invitee, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Telis was part of the Twins' roster pool during the abbreviated 2020 season, but he failed to appear in the majors at any point during the year. He could compete for a job as a reserve catcher ahead of the 2021 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Makes initial taxi squad
Telis did not make Minnesota's 30-man Opening Day roster, but is included on the three-man taxi squad that will travel with the team for the first series at the White Sox. Telis broke camp with the Marlins in 2018, but hit just .207/.258/.241 in 31 plate appearances before being designated for assignment. The 27-year-old spent the rest of the season with Triple-A New Orleans, slashing .309/.357/.397 across 76 games. He'll give the Twins veteran catcher depth and could be on the taxi squad all season without being called up if there's no emergency need for a catcher.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Part of 60-man squad
Telis was included in Minnesota's 60-man player pool ahead of summer camp before the 2020 season begins, MLB.com reports. Telis broke camp with the Marlins in 2018, but hit just .207/.258/.241 in 31 plate appearances before being designated for assignment. The 27-year-old spent the rest of the season with Triple-A New Orleans, slashing .309/.357/.397 across 76 games. He'll give the Twins veteran catcher depth at Minnesota's alternate training site.... Twins' Tomas Telis: Moves to minors
The Twins reassigned Telis to their minor-league camp Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Tomas was no higher than fourth on the Twins' organizational catching depth chart this spring, making it unsurprising that he didn't break camp with the big club. The 27-year-old will likely begin the campaign at Triple-A Rochester.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Tomas Telis: Links up with Twins
Telis signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Telis broke camp with the Marlins in 2018, but hit just .207/.258/.241 in 31 plate appearances before being designated for assignment. The 27-year-old spent the rest of the season with Triple-A New Orleans, slashing .309/.357/.397 across 76 games. Telis represents organizational catching depth for Minnesota.... See More ... Marlins' Tomas Telis: Clears waivers and heads to minors
Telis cleared waivers Wednesday and was assigned to Triple-A New Orleans, Matthew DeFranks of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Telis made the Marlins' Opening Day roster but didn't receive much playing time, starting just twice. He hit a mere .207/.258/.241 in 31 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: DFA'd by Marlins
Telis was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Saturday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports. Telis has appeared in 23 games for the Marlins this season but has mustered only 31 plate appearances and is slashing .207/.258/.298 with eight strikeouts. Miami needed to make room for the return of starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen (elbow).... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: Remains on bench Friday
Telis is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. Telis appeared likely to be the team's interim starter at catcher while J.T. Realmuto (back) is on the disabled list, but instead it's been Chad Wallach who earned the first two starts behind the plate. Wallach started against the left-handed Jon Lester and the right-handed Kyle Hendricks, so there doesn't appear to be a platoon situation going on. As of right now, Telis seems to be the Marlins' backup, and he'll likely become the third-string catcher in early April when Realmuto recovers from his injury.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: Not in Opening Day lineup
Telis is out of Thursday's lineup, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports. This is a bit of a surprise, as it seemed Telis would be the primary catcher while J.T. Realmuto is on the disabled list. Chad Wallach will get the start behind the dish and hit eighth. The Marlins may have opted for the right-handed Wallach because they are facing lefty Jon Lester (Telis is a switch hitter).... Marlins' Tomas Telis: In line for Opening Day start
Telis will likely serve as the Marlins' Opening Day catcher with J.T. Realmuto (back) expected to miss the start of the season, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports. Manager Don Mattingly said that it's "highly likely" that Realmuto will begin the year on the disabled list, thrusting Telis into the primary catching role to begin the 2018 campaign. During 48 games with the Marlins last season, Telis slashed .240/.279/.346 with eight extra-base hits and nine RBI in 111 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: Likely to start season in majors
Telis is the frontrunner to open the season as the Marlins' backup catcher, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Telis spent much of his time in the majors at first base last season due to the presence of Jeff Mathis as the No. 2 catcher behind J.T. Realmuto (back), but with Mathis out of town and Telis out of options, it may finally be the 26-year-old's time to land an Opening Day roster spot. The switch-hitting catcher batted just .240 in 104 at-bats last season, but he's 8-for-27 (.296) with four RBI this spring. Telis could even land a few starts to open the season since the incumbent catcher is currently injured.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Telis is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals, Andre Fernandez of The Miami Herald reports. Telis will head to the bench after making two straight starts at first base, as JT Realmuto draws the assignment for the series finale. Over his last 10 appearances, Telis is hitting just .167/.194/.167 with one run scored.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: Not in Thursday's lineup
Telis is out of the lineup for Thursday's series finale against Philadelphia, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. Telis has seemingly pulled ahead of Tyler Moore at first base while Justin Bour (oblique) continues to recover on the DL, but the 26-year-old will retreat to the bench following five starts in the past seven games. In that span, he's 5-for-19 with three RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tomas Telis: Draws fourth start in five games
Telis will start at first base and bat seventh in Game 1 of the Marlins' doubleheader Tuesday with the Phillies, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports. With Telis set to make his fourth start in five contests, it appears safe to conclude that he's moved ahead of Tyler Moore on the depth chart at first base for the time being. The uptick in at-bats has been well deserved for Telis, who has gone 8-for-23 with five RBI over his past eight games. Telis should still be viewed as one of the lower-end fantasy options at first base, but the fact that he has catcher eligibility in most formats might be enough to make him an appealing pickup, particularly in deeper mixed leagues that start two backstops....
