  • Athletics' Dean Kiekhefer: Back with Oakland

Kiekhefer signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training, though Kiekhefer figures to open the season at Triple-A. The southpaw appeared in four games for the A's last season, allowing four runs on seven hits in just two innings. He posted a 3.83 ERA and 7.3 K/9 across 44.2 innings with Triple-A Nashville.

  • Athletics' Dean Kiekhefer: Outrighted to Triple-A

Kiekhefer was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Kiekhefer was dropped from the team's 40-man roster in order to make room for younger players who warrant protection from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The southpaw made just four appearances for the A's in 2018, allowing four runs across two innings of work. He posted a 3.39 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.9 K/9 in 58.1 innings across multiple levels of the minors.

  • Athletics' Dean Kiekhefer: Called up by Oakland

Kiekhefer had his contract selected by the Athletics on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Kiekhefer signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics in May and posted a 3.83 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 44.2 innings with Triple-A Nashville. The left-hander has a 5.32 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 22 career major-league innings.

  • Reds' Dean Kiekhefer: Signs minor-league deal with Reds

Kiekhefer and the Reds agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Kiekhefer spent the 2017 season at the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate, where he produced 42 strikeouts and only 19 walks en route to a 4.47 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched. He played 26 games in the majors in 2016 with St. Louis, pitching to a 5.32 ERA in 22.0 innings. Before that, Kiekhefer had an outstanding three seasons at Triple-A Memphis, as he threw a combined 149.2 innings and produced a sub-3.00 ERA each year. The 28-year-old will need to replicate his Memphis numbers this spring should he hope to grab a spot in the Reds' bullpen.

  • Mariners' Dean Kiekhefer: Sent to minor-league camp

Kiekhefer was reassigned to minor-league camp Friday.

Despite some injuries in the Mariners bullpen, Kiekhefer will not break camp with the big-league club. He fanned nine batters over 9.1 innings this spring and allowed four earned runs. He'll likely slot into the bullpen at Triple-A Tacoma when the season begins.

  • Mariners' Dean Kiekhefer: Sent outright to Triple-A

Kiekhefer cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.

The left-hander had a brief cup of coffee with the Cardinals last season, but he had nowhere near the success that he experienced in the minors (sub-3.00 ERA in three seasons at Triple-A). Kiekhefer will likely act as organizational depth unless some major turmoil crops up at the major league level.

  • Mariners' Dean Kiekhefer: Designated for assignment

Kiekhefer was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Saturday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

Kiekhefer's Mariners tenure didn't last a month, as the team opted to clear his roster spot for one of two pitchers with past track records of major league success in Casey Fien or Mark Rzepczynksi. Kiekhefer's strong minor league numbers should be able to find him a new organization, but he might have to wait a while before a return to the majors.

  • Mariners' Dean Kiekhefer: Claimed by Mariners on Friday

Kiekhefer was claimed off waivers by the Mariners on Friday.

Kiekhefer was stellar out of the bullpen for Triple-A Memphis in the Cardinals organization (2.08 ERA, 2.11 BB/9 in 2016), and although he didn't find as much success at the major league level, his performance still intrigued the Mariners enough to warrant a roster move. The left-hander doesn't overwhelm anyone with strikeouts, but his excellent command could help him vie for a bullpen spot in Seattle out of spring training.

  • Cardinals' Dean Kiekhefer: Called up by Cardinals

The Cardinals recalled Kiekhefer from Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Kiekhefer will take the roster spot of Mike Leake (shingles), who was placed on the disabled list. Kiekhefer appeared in 15 games with the Cardinals earlier this season and posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 11:2 K:BB over 14 innings. He will work situationally and in middle relief.

  • Cardinals' Dean Kiekhefer: Optioned to Triple-A

Kiekhefer was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Kiekhefer's latest stint in the major leagues lasted all of two days, as he was the roster casualty with Matt Carpenter's return from the disabled list. He's bounced between levels frequently since mid-May and will likely continue riding the shuttle before settling in with St. Louis for good when rosters expand.

  • Cardinals' Dean Kiekhefer: Recalled from Triple-A Memphis

Kiekhefer was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

As expected, Kiekhefer will come up to fill the roster spot vacated by lefty Tyler Lyons, who hit the DL with a stress reaction in his right knee. Kiekhefer has pitched 13 innings for the Cardinals on the season, posting a 4.85 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He's fared better at the Triple-A level, where he holds a healthy 2.00 ERA across 27 innings.

  • Cardinals' Dean Kiekhefer: Optioned to Triple-A

Kiekhefer was optioned to Triple-A Memphis following Wednesday's doubleheader.

He was recalled to serve as the 26th man for the doubleheader and will predictably be sent back to Memphis. Kiekhefer has flashed the potential to be a solid big league reliever in the future, but he is still in the development/organizational depth phase at Triple-A.

  • Cardinals' Dean Kiekhefer: Recalled to serve as 26th man Wednesday

Kiekhefer was recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday to serve as the 26th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres.

He will likely be sent back to Triple-A after serving as an extra bullpen arm for Wednesday's games. Kiekhefer was pretty filthy in the Arizona Fall League last year, but that success has not translated to Triple-A or the big leagues this year. He has 14 strikeouts in 25.2 innings at Triple-A and a 5.73 ERA in 11 big league innings in 2016.

Kiekhefer was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Kiekhefer hasn't pitched for the Cards since June 8, and has allowed seven earned runs over 11 innings this season. The team needed a roster spot for the activation of righty Seth Maness, and with Kiekhefer last in the bullpen pecking order, the middle reliever will ultimately head back to Memphis.

The Cardinals optioned Seth Maness to Memphis on Friday, and subsequently called up Kiekhefer. He had given up two earned runs, while striking out nine batters in 13.1 innings in Memphis. This will be the 27-year-old south paw's first stint in the big leagues.
